Research and support
In 2012, a fellowship was awarded to a scholar to decipher the diaries of Munin Barkotoki.
The Trust is particularly keen to support a student historian who would be interested in doing a comprehensive biography of Satyen Barkataki, possibly as part of his/her doctoral project. Interested candidates are requested to contact the Managing Trustee.
Addaghar
After the death of Renuka Devi Barkataki in 2017, the rest of the ground floor of the Barkotoki residence has been repurposed as a meeting place for Senior Citizens named Addaghar. Established on 1 March 2019, the senior citizens currently meet twice a week and interact among themselves as well as with guests. For more information about Addaghar activities, please follow the Addaghar FB page.
Sabhaghar
On 29th November 2024, a small hall named Sabhaghar was inaugurated at the second floor of the Barkotoki premises at Panchabati by senior Trustee Upendra Barkataki. Suitable for small meetings and discussion forums, this space is expected to contribute to the literary and cultural scene of the region.
Since its inauguration in November 2024, the Trust has been holding two regular monthly programmes at Sabhaghar:
(a) A lecture series titled ‘Plain Facts / Tathyare Jukti ’ where known experts in various fields are invited to speak about the subject of their expertise to a lay audience. Noted critic Arindam Borkataki is the Convenor of this programme.
(b) (b) A storytelling programme called ‘Galpawalar Pera / Storyteller’s Coffer’ where speakers are encouraged to tell rather than read out stories. With noted writers Geetali Borah and Apu Bharadwaj as the Convenors, this programme, meant to encourage and preserve the art of storytelling, has become very popular within a very short period of time.
Other programmes such as the Book Reading Club called ‘Porhuwoir Mel’ and a literary meet called ‘Bodhbeli’ are also held from time to time.
